Inspired by the alphabet and numeral paintings of Jasper Johns (above) Kindergarten students mixed red, yellow, blue, and white paint to make as many blobs of color as they could. We used our knowledge of the primary and secondary colors to help us. We stenciled, stickered, and stamped letters and numbers for the final effect.

Shape Robots
Kindergarteners imagined a robot that would help them with something. Students used foam to build their robots using their knowledge of shapes. Students printed buttons using legos and black tempera paint. The background shows what the robot helps the students with.
Shoe Print Necklaces
Kindergarten students learned all about texture in this unit. We made a necklace out of clay using the texture on the bottom of our shoes. Then we painted with glaze.
Polar Express Trains
Kindergarten students used their knowledge of shapes to make trains. We painted snow using puffy glitter paint. Choo Choo!
ROY G BIV Line paintings
In this unit, kindergarten students learned all of the different kinds of line. Students did an amazing job painting different kinds of lines using black tempera paint. Next students watched the ROYGBIV video by We might be Giants. We used our knowledge of the color spectrum to paint these in the order of the rainbow.
Pumpkin Expressions
Kindergarten students used their knowledge of shape, expression, and line to create this cute (and sometimes scary) pumpkins!
Jasper Johns Themed Pop Art Paintings
Kindergarten students used the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and white to mix the colors on these lovely paintings. Our objective was to fill up the whole page (covering the white space) with as many colors as we could make, cleaning our brush off in between. Next students stamped and stenciled letters and numbers to make their paintings POP!

A Snowy Scene November/December
Kindergarten Students painted snowmen in profile in this snowy scene. Students did a fantastic job using line in new ways to draw snowflakes. We talked about pattern for the scarves and learned how to paint a shadow to shade our snow people.
Pumpkin Masks October
We took our exploration of portraiture a step further in this next unit as we created pumpkin masks. Students talked about emotions and how the face moves according to feeling. Students mixed their primary colors red and yellow to paint orange. Drew vertical lines and practiced their fine motor skills of cutting and gluing in this project. We tied our masks in with drama as we acted out the poem "5 little pumpkins". We had sooo much fun!
